  What's with JW's and X-mas lights?..........

  i mean i remember growing up as a jw and then 15 baptized adults years, and every year all the jw's would say something to the effect, "lets go look at all the pretty lights", or they would tell their neighbors that they really liked their lights.

  and i remember teaching my kids the same thing, that it's ok to look at the lights (but not ok to like anything else about x-mas, oh regrets!

  ) doesn't that seem weird or something?

  Where I live no one says that. They all say it is pagan and that they hate the lights. Two years ago we went on coffee break and the coffee house had lights up this little witness girl loudly say how Jehovah hates X-mas lights. Everyone in the place just looks at us like we were some kind of freaks then an older brother who is not all there comes in and says the same thing out loud. I just wanted crawl out of the place, as everyone was just thinking us JW's were nuts.

  The next day at the meeting the PO in the WT study goes on and on about how wonderful it was that our young children can pick up on the way Satan works and he tell how this little girl was not fooled by the X-mas lights and how wonderful it was that she spoke up. OMG it is so sick.

  New sex offender in my hall

  just found out that there is a sex offender in my hall.

  the "brother" that i was with said " the brothers will make sure that he is not put with any kids in service".

  The child rapist in my hall loves to go door to door. No one can know. Lovelylil2 is so right never, never trust you child with anyone in this religion. Never let them use the bathroom alone, and never let them be alone in a car with an elder or MS while you go on a RV. Sick is it not that parents have to be so on guard but we got it from the month of a brother in the service department just four weeks ago that parents cannot be told. Sick.

  Welcome Me Back... Please

  after a very long hiatus in which i organized my feelings, thoughts and actions, please take time to welcome me back to this fine forum.. i'm trapped inside the organization, with no end in sight whatsoever.

  however, i've learned to keep a pretty good balance of the inner and outter world; not perfect in, not perfect out, just keeping a good balance for my sanity's sake.. feels good to be back posting again.. dy.

  Has any one heard of it. I just got it emailed to me by Amazon. It seem like a new book just released.

  It is by George Chryssides. Has anyone heard of him? Just wondering what kind of book this might be.

  To me it seems a little high in price at $40.00 for not really knowing what it is.

  Just wondering if anyone has any knowledge of it or of George Chryssides.

  did you find the dubs were always late?

  i found the higher up the socail rank the dubs got, the more tardy they were for everything, meetings, ministry.

  and of course when you invited them round.

  so many times i can remeber the food spoiling/burning and 45mins to an hour later they would decide to finaly turn up!

  I think it just depends on the hall. The one we are or I should say my husband is in the elders are always late. To the meeting for service at least 5 to ten minutes late. They barley get there on time for the school and service meetings. Most walk in right when the song starts. To me it was very rude. My elder husband always insisted that we be there at least 10 to 15 minutes early all the time and the other elders banked on that.

  To me it is just rude but I think that is just how some people are.

  i was reading in the spanish forum (http://www.extj.com/foro/showthread.php?t=15396) that an old sister died from a heart atack during the memorial, but that didn't stop the ritual.

  i remember a lonley very sick sister calling for help to the kh during an emergency, and the elders told her, they were busy in an elder's meeting.

  she almost died and was rushed into the hospital by 'worldy' people.

  My husband was the school overseer and he was having a heart attack. He did not tell me he was having chest pains as I would have made him go to the hospital right then. He felt the meeting was more important then his life. So he conducted the school then sat through most of the service meeting as he did not want to disrupt that meeting either. He went into the back of the hall right before the song. I had gotten to the meeting late that night because of working late and I just did not notice he was not feeling well until the last song. I flew to the back and asked him what was wrong, still he would not tell me but asked me to go get one of the other elders. I ran to this one elder he wanted and this brother came into the back room. It was then that my husband let it out that he was having a heart attack and that he had been to the doctor that afternoon and the doctor had told him he had, had a mild heart attack that weekend. The doctor had made an appointment for him the next day at the hospital for more tests to be run as the doctor felt he would be OK until then. Well he had a major heart attack that night at the meeting. Never let your husband go to the doctor alone is one big thing I learned from all of this. Well anyway this elder just looks at my husband and does nothing. I was in shock and said to my husband you have got to get to the hospital right now. This stupid elder just stands there. I grab my keys as I was just thinking this cannot be happening. As I was leaving getting into my car this elders says to me do you think you can drive him? OH MY WORD. It was not let me drive you or call lets call 911, it was just like no big deal to this elder that my husband was having a heart attack. Then this elder finally makes it up to the hospital after he finishes the meeting and he told me well I will make sure you husband is not handing the school for a couple of months. Never happened. My husband was right back the next week.

  For his second heart attack, it happened again on the meeting night but this time he was at work. I tried to call the PO and let him know my husband would not be conducting the school that night. I was truly afraid they might try to make him if they let him out of the hospital. The PO's wife answered the phone and when I told her my husband was in the hospital again having another heart attack she said what do you want me to do about it. I have to go out in service and I do not know how to get a hold of my husband anyway. I was so hurt. I said well I am driving to the hospital and when and if you ever see your husband again could you just let him know that my husband is in the hospital with another heart attack. All she could say is that I have to go out in service. She never did come up to the hospital nor did she call to see how we were doing.

  It is unbelievable now that I just felt that was normal.

  Still Confused

  this last week has been especially hard for me.

  this is all new to me, and as most of you know, the journey is gut wrenching, quite painful.

  lately, i've been trying to take the go with the flow approach.

  In the past month both my husband and I have spoken with some brother in the service department at Bethel. They will not give you their name. I wonder why? Anyway this brother will not answer the question of why parents cannot be told in the hall of a brother who has a past of molesting children. The brother at Bethel told my husband that the elders have very pointed instructions in writing on how to handle child abuse cases. When my husband told him there was nothing in writing about why parents cannot be informed so that they can watch their children this person at Bethel got very defensive toward my husband. Tried to change the topic. Then when asked again he said he would not go beyond what is written.

  My husband came back and said then there must be some unwritten law that says parents cannot be told because the whole body of elders in our hall will not inform parents that we had a level 3 sex offender among us. The brother at Bethel just kept repeating he would not go beyond what is written, he just could not go beyond what is written. My husband told him well there is nothing written and he just said again he would not go beyond what is written.

  I called back and just had to ask him what about people at the doors. Do they not have the right to know we send convicted child molesters to their homes and that their child could open the door to a child rapist some Saturday morning. He seemed caught off guard by my blunt question, put me on hold for about a minute and then came back to the phone and said he would not answer my question as I would surly understand why. No I could not understand that. He then said one child molested is one child too many. Really? Hum so what are they doing about it?

  Very upsetting.

  Mass Murder

  knowing that most people condemn ethnic cleansing and the extermination of the jews, how do you as a jw's rationalise mass murder by god at armageddon?.

  i always had problems reconcilling this and was wondering if anyone really could..

  That is something that alway brothered me. It is almost like some sick twisted people who want to see death. Like in Tony Morris's talk where he said

  "I was in Vietnam. I have seen mass death....human casualties. I have smelled burning human flesh after a helicopter crash. I saw only a glimpse of what it will probably be like at Armageddon. We must be prepared."

  I found what he said there to be very offensive. Just like when 9-11 happened and some of the JW's were excited over it.

  To me they are just so sick. How can they really think Jehovah will look down and bless them is beyond me.
